At least once a day, you have to introduce yourself to someone new. But how do you describe yourself to others? Do you have a clear and accurate
understanding of who you are?
understanding of who you are?
Our personal identity is not what we see in the mirror, or what we do at work, or where we live or what we believe. They are all the result of wrongly learning to build our self-image around only the physical things in life. We are the conscious beings which bring to life the mix of five elements we call our body. We often separate these two energies in our conversations when we use terms like – human and being, matter and mind, body and soul. It is when we mistakenly identify ourselves with something that we are not, that all our problems begin!
Our self-definition is how we may choose to describe ourselves at any given moment, e.g. "I am a peaceful person", or "I am not a very good communicator" or “I’m the kind of person who always worries”. Our self-definition changes according to our mood and perhaps the situation. Our part is absolutely unique. In one sense our whole life is our part, which can never be taken by anyone else, whereas, we play many roles. In fact, we can choose the roles we play throughout our life as we get to write our own script… if we want to.
So there is a difference between identity, definition, part and role, and being clear about that difference will help you find a deeper sense of purpose in your life, free you from a great deal of stress and make your decisions easier.
